It must be something in the water

One of the things I love about running during summer mornings is the sound and smell of lawns being watered. Yesterday morning the sprinklers in the park across the street were on as I started my four mile run. It was the first time I’ve seen the sprinklers of any kind on this year. Though it was still chilly this morning the whoosh of the sprinklers and smell of the water made it seem like summer. I’m looking forward to running around the neighborhood in a month when the lawns are being watered each morning and feeling the cool water on my arms and legs. *** I just spent the last 30 minutes on the phone with a friend in Arizona. He and his wife have been trying to conceive for a long time with little success. Two weeks ago they received a phone call from a friend who said she knew an unwed mother who was looking to give her baby up for adoption and wanted to know if my friend and his wife were interested in possibly adapting the child. They talked it over and prayed about it and felt it was the right thing to do. The baby is scheduled to be born this weekend. There are still some things that could thwart the adoption. The mother or the father could decide not to give up the child, the courts need to certify my friend and his wife as fit parents (shouldn’t be a problem), and there seems to be like a million other details that need to be worked out. But things have come together so well for them the last two weeks it seems like it was meant to be. So I’m crossing my fingers and praying that goes well for them this weekend. I’m happy and excited for the two of them. This really is a dream come true for them. *** And speaking of babies, it seems like everyone Marathon Girl and I know is pregnant. There are two girls at work who are expecting their first babies in September. Another coworker’s wife is expecting their first little one in August. My sister is expecting her third child – also in August. A cousin is expecting her first in July. Marathon Girl is expecting number two in October. And don’t even get me started on all the women in the neighborhood who are expecting between May and November. It must be something in the water.
