Matt Leinart, dinner with friends, and writing for an alternative publication

About an hour ago the main receptionist sent out a trivia question to all company employees asking if anyone could name the team and starting quarterback who beat BYU 42-10 this year. Being full of such useless college football trivia, I emailed back the answer: Matt Leinart, USC. About 10 minutes later the CEO of the company stopped by my cube and asked how I knew the answer. I was a little surprised at his stopping by and mentioned something about having tons of such trial knowledge in my brain. Then to my surprise, the CEO gave me a USC college football hat signed by Matt Leinart that he received on a recent trip to USC.

I’m not a big USC fan but this was a fun present to receive. It’s not every day that a Heisman Trophy winner’s signature ends up on your desk. I think I’ll put it on my shelf next to the baseball I caught at the Tigers/Diamondbacks game three years ago.

Winning the hat was the capstone of what’s been a very good last couple of days. Last night Marathon Girl and I went out to dinner with two friends and their cute two month old baby. We sat for two hours at the restaurant with them catching up on each others lives and talking about our kids. Marathon Girl and I both had a wonderful time and Aidan was very well behaved all things considered. It was nice to have a fun night out with friends. It’s something that doesn’t happen too often since Aidan’s been around but when we do have a night out they are very enjoyable.

At this dinner one of our friends asked if I wanted to head up a monthly alternative political/economic publication his company publishes. It took me all of 1.3 seconds to say YES. I’ve been itching to write for this publication for several months and was a little surprised (but thrilled) he wanted me to run it. Since last night I’ve been making a list of articles and things I would like to publish or pursue with the publication. Hopefully I can start work on it soon.

Well I’m heading into a weekend of yard work and preparation for church (Marathon Girl and I are speaking) but I’m really upbeat about where things are heading. I hope you all have a fun, enjoyable weekend too.
