Gattaca, Easter Egg Hunt, and Running Cold

I’ve been bogged down at work the last three days working on an ad campaign and website for an event we’re host for the company’s largest customer. Hence the delay in announcing the winner(s) of the self portrait contest. With my additional hints, three people guessed the movie that inspired it. Congratulations go to cryondemand, yippy-skippy, and Erik, who correctly guessed Gattaca. Cryondemand was the first person to guess it correctly and thus wins the book. Thanks to all those who submitted guesses. For those who are unfamiliar with Gattaca, about midway through it there’s a scene where Jerome (Ethan Hawke) and Irene (Uma Thurman) go to a concert where the pianist has 12 fingers. The poster advertising the concert shows the pianist covering his face with his twelve fingers. This image has always haunted me for some reason and thus my reason for mimicking it. (I did a Google image search for over an hour last night and was unable to find an image of the poster. Alas, when I can find one I will post it. If anyone knows where I can find one, please let me know!) *** The had the mother of all Easter Egg hunts in the park across the street Saturday morning. There had to be close to 1,000 men, women, and children in the park waiting to descend on the brightly colored plastic eggs. Marathon Girl and I took Aidan over but he had little interest in the goings on. So we took him home and watched from our window as everyone descended upon the eggs and scooped them up in a matter of minutes. Maybe I have this Easter Egg hunt thing backward but shouldn’t it be the kids that collect the eggs? I was surprised at the number of parents that helped their kids collect eggs and were literally pushing other kids out of the way to give their kids more. I talked with some coworkers about it and they said that the witnessed similar things over the weekend. How sad. They’re just plastic, candy-filled eggs people. Let your kids fend for themselves. *** I’ve run twice this week on icy roads. This means I run slow. I’m tired of running the cold. I want warm, sunny mornings to run. I want to wear shorts and a long sleeve t-shirt – not layer upon layer of clothes. Marathon Girl’s dad came over on Saturday afternoon and added some new weight exercises to my routine. My arms are still sore from the workout he put me through. No complaints though. I’m happy with the results thus far. And I really enjoy having a father-in-law that I can hang around with occasionally. Makes the whole marriage thing a lot more fun. Back to work for me. Much work for the company’s largest customer still needs to be done.
