nothing to report, jazz vs. lakers

The funeral on Saturday wasn’t bad. My first wife’s parents didn’t show – which was more of a relief to me than a surprise. I was able to socialize with most of my first wife’s family and catch up on their lives. And as far as funerals go, this one was surprisingly upbeat. Funerals are different when the person has lived a full life. Everyone was so happy just to have known her. And though tears were shed, most people seemed at peace with the fact that it was her time to go. *** We arrived home late. I checked the mail and discovered a letter containing two Utah Jazz tickets to the upcoming March 22 game against the Los Angels Lakers courtesy of a local radio station. I vaguely remember signing up on the station’s website to win some tickets back in October or November. Granted the Jazz are horrible this year but I would love to see them play the Lakers – the basketball team I love to hate. Plus the seats were actually pretty decent considering they were radio station giveaways. The only downside was that the game is on a Tuesday (read: work night). After much thinking about it, I decided not to go. If it was a Friday or Saturday game, Marathon Girl would find a babysitter for Aidan and go. But since it’s on a work night, it complicates things. We probably wouldn’t get home until after 11 and that makes it really hard to find a baby sitter in our small community. Marathon Girl said I should invite my brother or one of my brother-in-laws and watch the game with one of them. Though I appreciated her letting me go with someone else, I don’t like the idea of being away from Marathon Girl and Aidan for an entire day. It’s one of the ways I’ve changed over the last several years. I want to spend as much time with the two of them that I can. And if it means I have to give up a Jazz/Lakers game to spend an evening with them then that’s what I’ll do. No regrets at all. Besides there will always be more Jazz games – if not this year than next. In the end I gave the tickets to my youngest brother. He was extremely excited to have them. So now he and his best friend will be going to the game. They should be stopping by work sometime this afternoon to pick them up. Speaking of work, time to put the nose back to the grindstone. Hope everyone is having a great Monday.
