This V-Day

Marathon Girl and I didn’t do much for Valentine’s Day. We usually save the flowers, dinner and other things for our anniversary which falls on the twenty eighth. Still, there are small gifts to be given. I always end up giving Marathon Girl a teddy bear to add to her collection. She always gives me candy.

This year I resolved to be a last minute Valentine’s Day shopper. I was determined that I would accomplish the shopping that weekend. But, alas, it didn’t happen. One of my sisters was married on Saturday and by the time all the wedding-related activities for the wedding wrapped up, there was no time left to shop.

So Monday I left early for work under the guise that I had a lot of work to do in order to make it home on time. I drove to the store. As I was entering the store, two men exited carrying bags filled with chocolates, balloons, and other red and pink colored merchandise.

This wasn’t a good sign.

The entire store was void of customers except the Valentine’s Day section where hoards of men were jostling each other for what remaining Valentine’s Day merchandise remained. Fortunately for me, men were buying everything but stuffed bears so there were plenty to choose from. I took my time and located the perfect bear and proceeded to the cash register leaving the rest of the men to fend for themselves.

Next year I’ll do better. Next year I’ll do better. Promise.
