Turning 30, birthday suprise, and more good news
2005-02-01 7:29 a.m.

In my first run since turning thirty, I ran well.

The hills didn’t bother me. My left knee which give me an occasional problem, felt great. I ran four miles in under eight minutes a mile. It’s the first time I’ve run that fast in months.

Maybe this thirty something age will work out OK.

Marathon Girl made my birthday wonderful and special.

First there was my favorite dinner: pepperoni and green olive pizza followed by generous slices of razzleberry pie.

Then there was a treasure hunt through the house to find clues that ended in the garage. (For some reason Aidan got a big kick out of this as he kept laughing as I walked from room to room to find my presents.) In the garage, I started looking for brightly wrapped packages.

I found nothing.

I read the last clue to make sure it was leading me to the right place. I was.

This time I searched the garage better and found my present on the far side of the garage next to Marathon Girl’s car.

There was a large stack of cardboard boxes. Inside was a weight bench and weights.

I gave my last set of weights to my youngest brother when Marathon Girl and I got married because there wasn’t going to be any room for them until we bought a house. Since we’ve bought a house, I’ve teased my youngest brother that I’m going to take the weights back now that I have a place to put them.

It was the perfect gift. And I was completely thrilled.

So last night we set up they bench. Tomorrow morning I’m going to see how weak my arms have become.

And Marathon Girl said that her father, who’s been a serious weigh lifter for around seven years, would be happy to come by soon and help me develop a routine.

I’m not giving up on running. I’m just going to supplement It would be nice to have some muscle to go on my incredibly thin frame.

More good news today.

Some friends who have been working on the adoption process for awhile are scheduled to become parents today. A baby girl. What a blessing! They sound so excited and nervous. I’m praying that all goes well for them today and hoping to hear tomorrow that everything went well.
