running on ice, trick or treat, and please vote!

I must admit those Red Sox surprised me. Even after they took the first two games I expected once the Series arrived at St. Louis that things would be different. Instead Boston won their first World Series since 1918. Congrats guys. The best team won! (See how silly that the curse of the Bambino really is. Maybe the Cubs will learn a lesson for next year.) *** It was a good thing the kids in our town went trick-or-treating Saturday instead of Sunday. An ice storm visited Utah yesterday dumping 1.5 inches of snow and ice on the roads. Running in the cold this morning, the ice and snow crackled underfoot. It sounded like I was running on bubble wrap. What was unbelievable was watching the cars and trucks drive at speeds that were too fast for conditions and sliding through stop signs. Because some imbeciles were driving too fast, my commute to work took 40 minutes instead of the usual 20. The biggest reason for a delay was driving past a four car accident not two miles from my house. Cars were spread all over the road and one was turned sideways across the median. Fortunately it looked like there were no serious injuries. Our neighborhood was inundated with lots of kids on Saturday night knocking on doors. Marathon Girl and I counted over eighty kids that came to our door alone. One of the neighbors who brought his son to our door said that the previous owner used to own some big, mean dogs and the neighborhood kids were afraid to knock her door. Makes me wonder if the number of trick-or-treaters would have been higher had they known the dogs no longer lived there. We found a nice black cat outfit for Aidan which made a good Halloween outfit. Of course he didn’t seem to care much about all the people that knocked on our door. He was more than content to sit in the living room and play with some toys. Overall, it was a great weekend. *** Whatever your political persuasion, I hope all my readers in the U.S. go out and vote your conscience tomorrow.
