Rain, sitting up, and a World Series prediction

It has rained for four straight days. Even as I’m writing this letter the sky is covered with a blanket of gray stratus clouds and raindrops patter softly against the windows. It’s been years since I can remember it raining for days on end. Most rain storms around here don’t last more than an hour before they blow across the border to Wyoming or Colorado. In a desert where every drop of water is precious, we welcome the rain – even if it makes running conditions in the morning cold and windy. It’s been a nice change. I only wish we had rains storms like this more often. My only worry about so much rain is that it’s a sign of things to come: a very snow winter. (Others are jumping for joy over this, I realize.)

Aidan celebrated his five month mark yesterday by being able to sit without anyone supporting him. He’s been struggling to do it without help the last few weeks and yesterday he finally mastered it. He was so excited to not need any help from mom or dad. Watching him grow and develop has been very fun. I tell you, being a dad is the best thing I’ve ever experienced.

I must admit I was more than a little stunned to witness the Red Sox come from three games down and beat the Yankees to advance to the World Series. But Boston’s fate in the World Series will depend on who advances in the National League. If Astros win, Boston will win the series in five games and smash the curse of The Bambino. If the Cardinals win, however, look for the series to go six games and Boston to collapse when the pressure is on (a la Bill Buckner).
