Overdirve

I’ve been in overdrive at work the last week trying to write/finish three ad campaigns this week in addition to helping the marketing department come up with a theme for a tradeshow in November and writing pre-show mailers to send out. I’m also in the midst of writing up a company brochure, creating several new web pages for the company’s site, and helping the tech writer come up with a training guide for one of our systems. (If you can’t tell, I do a lot of writing at work.) The only downside of all this writing is that I come home every evening only to discover my brain is pretty much fried and I’m unable to do much creative writing. Even if my brain wasn’t fried every night, I doubt I’d have much time to write creatively. Marathon Girl and I found a house about sixteen miles southwest of our current location and made an offer on the house. It was accepted and now we’re going through the process of buying it. So far everything has gone very smoothly and we’re not complaining. The best part about the house (aside from the fact it has plenty of room for our little family) is that it has a great writing room. The second level of the house has a room that overlooks a park. Already I can see me setting up my laptop, dictionaries and other writing necessities and having a nice, quiet place to write. Perfect. Though Marathon Girl and I have yet to explore the entire community, it appears there are a lot of running trails and quiet roads where we can go on long runs together. And speaking of long runs, I was finally able to keep up with Marathon Girl on Saturday. We did a seven mile run and for the first time in ages I was able to run the entire distance without falling behind. We didn’t run at a blistering pace but it was faster than I would have ran it alone. It’s been a nice confidence builder leading into the 10 mile run we’re going to tackle this next Saturday. Also on Saturday I was able to visit with a friend from Portland that I haven’t seen in a long time. It was nice to catch up with him and see what’s going on in his life. Aidan has learned how to arch his back and make himself as stiff as possible when he’s upset. It’s actually kind of funny to watch him stiffen up and start to fuss. Poor kid. Must be frustrating not to be able to tell Mom and Dad what you want. On the upside however, he sure is a fun baby in the mornings. Like this morning I got out of the shower and heard him cooing softly. I went to his room and found him wide awake kicking his legs and staring at the ceiling. “Good morning sunshine,” I said. His eyes immediately locked in on me and he broke into a big smile – obviously very happy to see Dad. He sure makes it hard to leave for work after that. Much more to write but no time right now. My 15 minute break is over. Time to finish writing up those ad campaigns!
