I know when to use lay/lie

Much to my amazement, I received quite a few e-mails regarding my entry yesterday from people surprised that I didn't know when to use lie or lay. One friend wrote: "Weren't you an English major? And are you not now a professional writer? I mean I don't know which one it's supposed to be, but...if you don't know which is which, what chance do the rest of us have? " Actually, I do know when to use lay/lie. I happen to have bad habit of trying to confuse others when it comes to grammar because most people don’t know when to use lay/lie. So when I wrote “Aidan lies there” (which was correct) I added “or is it ‘lays’ there?” just to see if people would start second guessing themselves. Apparently everyone started second guessing me. To avoid further confusion, I promise not to play any more grammar games on this site.
