Random Thoughts III

I never understood the saying "Ignorance is Bliss" until a few years ago. Now there are lots of things about other people I wish I never knew. Nothing tastes better on a hot summer afternoon than a cold slice of watermelon. It was four years ago this month that I started running every day. Coming up on baseball’s All Star break, the Detroit Tigers have won a total of 42 games – one shy of the total number of games they won all of last year. I recently went through the keys on my key ring and discovered that I have no idea what several keys go to. While running last week, I noticed the sun was no longer above the mountains in the mornings. It’s a sad reminder that in about five to six weeks I’ll be running in the dark again. The Tiger’s Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez is leading the American League with a .369 batting average. If he wins the batting title, he will be the first American League catcher to do so. Pudge is also the first Tiger to be voted into an All-Star game since 1988. A friend who’s been searching for a job for about four months recently told me he decided not to apply for several jobs for which he was well qualified because either job would require more than a 20 minute commute or a lengthy interview process (i.e. at least three separate interviews to get the job). His comments made me wonder why he’s even looking for work. Marathon Girl starts her marathon training this week. After running one last year, I don’t think I could ever put myself through training for a full marathon again. I enjoy running but it’s much easier on my body if I stick to 5Ks, 10Ks, or half marathons. You know it’s a hot morning when you return from a four mile run, take a five minute semi-cold shower and still find yourself sweating.
