Running stroller, a trip to Idaho, and blessing Aidan

Marathon Girl and I ran together twice this weekend. It was nice to run with her again – I didn’t realize until this weekend how much I missed running with her. The only hard thing about it was pushing Aidan in a running stroller. The stroller itself works great. It’s trying to run with the stroller that’s difficult. I think the reason it’s so hard is because I can’t move my arms while I run. Even with the added difficulty Marathon Girl and I were able to run slightly over eight minute miles. Aidan seems to enjoy the runs. He likes being outside and as long as he has a pacifier in his mouth doesn’t seem to mind the little bumps that come with the ride.

We were able to get away for a couple of days and visit some of Julie’s aunts and uncles in Idaho. It was nice to get away even if it was only for a day or two – we haven’t gone on a overnight trip since our drive to Seattle last year. We had a good time visiting with everyone. The aunt and uncle we stayed with live on a dairy farm. It was fun to tour the farm and see how things worked. It was also great to have rich farm milk to drink with every meal. If milk I bought from the store tasted that good, I’d easily drink milk all the time.

The fun part about the trip was having the two little boys (age 4 and 2) of her aunt and uncle be constantly amazed at my facial hair. (I didn’t shave while we were up there.) Their dad doesn’t have facial hair and only has to shave once every week or two so the boys aren’t used to seeing someone with facial hair. They kept wanting to touch it and make sure it was real.

We made it back to Utah in time to celebrate Independence Day with Marathon Girl’s family. We lit fireworks with her family and had a great time. I was worried that the noise would scare Aidan but he slept through the whole show in Marathon Girl’s arm.

The highlight of the entire weekend however was having the honor of blessing Aidan in church on Sunday. It was a wonderful experience and made me so happy to have the opportunity. I can’t describe how good it felt to hold him in my arms and do that. Being a dad is so fun!

Big changes are afoot. Wish I could talk about them all right now but unfortunately need to keep them under wraps for now. Stay tuned. Life changing events to be posted in the next few weeks.
