Fathers day, running, and the weight I've gained

It’s one thing being a father to the dead; it’s another to be a father to the living. For obvious reasons, previous Father’s Days have been bittersweet.

Not this one.

This one was perfect.

What made yesterday so special that was that for the first time, I was able to celebrate Father’s Day with Aidan. The best part was rocking Aidan to sleep and have him stare at me with his big, blue eyes and realizing that, yeah, I’m his dad.

I love this job.

It was one of those mornings when I felt I could have run for hours. The temperature was perfect and despite not getting quite as much rest as I usually need (thanks to Aidan), I was flush with energy. In the end ran four miles in just under 30 minutes – something I haven’t done since last summer. It made me wish that it was a Saturday because I would have liked nothing more than to turn the four miles into eight but, alas, work and other responsibilities beckoned.

I have a confession to make.

When Marathon Girl was pregnant, I purposely gained some weight (10 pounds) to help her feel a little better about the weight she was putting on. After Aidan was born, I’ve been working out more and eating better to lose the extra weight I put on. As of this morning, I’ve managed to lose three of those pounds. Marathon Girl, however, is just a few pounds away from her pre-pregnancy weight – and she hasn’t started running again.

~sighs~

Some people have all the luck.
